Adding colour to a picture (by Vered).

Very basic colour adding tutorial for Photoshop users.

(This tutorial assumes you understand photoshop layers and blendings).

Start with a basic image:

Add a new layer and choose a feathered brush like this one:

With this brush paint on the new empty layer with colours of your choice. You don't have to paint on the entire image, just where you want:

Now go to the "filter" menu and from the "blur" options choose "gausian". make sure to run it at a high radius, but not too high so the blur doesn't take away all the colour. For this image I used a radius of 55.

Now change the layer blending of the blurred layer to" colour":

Duplicate that layer: click the arrow (surrounded by the yellow box in the image) and choose "duplicate from the menu that opens:

Blend the duplicated layer with "overlay":

You can now add another layer and paint on it:

This time choose "Motion Blur":

And blend this layer with "colour burn":

The choice of blending is of course up to you, and you can achieve different effects with different blending and different colours, but this is the basis for colour adding. Other options are to add another image as a new layer and run blur filters on that image.
